Literary Love... The Book Fair!

It’s the official launch week for “Paris, Rue des Martyrs,” and today, Traveling With T is featuring me in an Author Spotlight. Please click here to have a look! (You will learn about my favorite books… and I even share my biggest literary confession!)

**

Today on my blog, I’m writing about another timely subject: Valentine’s Day! But not in the traditional way… I would like to share one of my book-related loves. It’s actually a childhood memory. I’m referring to the school book fair!

I still remember getting so excited every time my teacher would hand out the catalog of books that would be featured. I would bring it home, study it over and over until I was convinced that my selection was perfect and I hadn’t forgotten a thing.

Then it would be time to show it to my mom for approval. And my mom, so happy about my love of reading, never shortened this costly list (even though we clearly could buy similar books more cheaply elsewhere). There was just something magical about the book fair and my mom realized it.

Then the most exciting part: Each class would be allotted a certain amount of time to go to the book fair and make purchases. I can still see myself hurrying around the school library and glancing at the clock from time to time, only breathing a sigh of relief when I had found all of my books and still had a minute or two to spare.

I remember the elation when discovering the books on my list and the twinge of disappointment when certain books were no longer available. But in the end, as I walked out, arms overloaded with books, I always had a big smile on my face!

Do you have a favorite book fair or childhood book memory?

  2. They didn't exist when I was young, but you'll be glad to hear I used to organise the ones at my children's primary school. Not a good idea. I used to buy more than anyone, as I'd be responsible for handling every single book....

    1. Ha, ha! I could imagine myself doing the same thing... Would be very tempting to be in charge of all of those books! :)

  3. Book sales were the best! When I taught elementary school I ended up re-visiting the book fair as an adult and seeing it through the eyes of my students. It's just such a fun experience!

    1. That must have been so much fun! I dream of returning as an adult but they don't have the book fairs here. I'll have to tag along with one of my friend's kids when I'm back in the U.S.!
